Maxilla & Mandible is probably the best know natural history store in New York City. It offers everything from fossils and fossil casts to prepared bones and skulls of living animals, mounted insects, shells, books and many other items from the natural world. Also, much of the preparation of the items in the store are done on the premises. Once again the members of our Society have been invited on a special after hours, behind-the-scenes tour of the prep labs and workshops of Maxilla & Mandible. The shop has a long time association with our Society, and the owner also works closely with paleontologists and other biologists at the American Museum of Natural History next door and elsewhere in preparing and casting specimens for study and exhibit. This date and time (5:00 P.M.) was partially selected to coincide with our April meeting at the Museum next door at 2:00 P.M. - so why not make a day of it in the city and attend both! There will be about an hour between the end of the meeting and the start of the tour, allowing members attending both enough time for a leisurely walk to the store (about a block). We will be meeting up in front of the store. Or, if you prefer, you may browse through the store while waiting. For more information, contact the Field Trip Leader. Note: All attending must be members of the New York Paleontological Society |
